Real

I have to wonder what happens to the REAL stuff. It seems like more and more products appear in the store made with artificial ingredients. What are these "fake" ingredients? What do they use the "real" stuff for? Recently my husband, an avid tea drinker, purchased something called Mango White Tea. It only took one cup for him to figure out it didn't contain real mango flavouring. After a couple of cups he said he didn't want any more of it. I looked at the ingredients, and no where was mango mentioned--do chemists come up with this stuff?

Today I went shopping to look for a few Halloween items to send to my granddaughter. I picked up and looked at a few snack items packaged in relatively small bags. There were trail mixes, fruit flavoured gummies, and other products, and on every bag was printed artificial flavouring. Which brought to mind the no doubt less than wonderful taste of the phony goodies. Needless to say, I dropped the one I'd looked at, and moved on. Sure they were inexpensive enough, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for."

I continued to look around, finally choosing a few items I was relatively familiar with, in brand names. They sure don't make it easy to find quality items. Particularly at Walmart, it seems as though they are more and more pushing their own store brands, and not carrying as many brand selections. There are a few things I will buy in store brands, but generally, not actual food products. We are on a limited budget, but we still choose to eat real food, and as well as we can.

Which really makes me wonder what they do with the real stuff, do they send it overseas? I know you can buy actual strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and other produce, but where does it come from? Is a farmer's market the only place you can find a real product, grown here? Once again, I guess I don't get it, as we do our best to find real nutritious stuff out here in the country.
