My husband is a die hard Science, History, Discovery Channel, fan, almost to the point of obsession. Myself, I can listen, and even watch, for awhile, but I absolutely cannot listen to it all day long. Or the Business Channels, he is also a big follower of financial information, stocks, gainers, losers, companies going bust, and on and on. When he has a day off, the television is almost entirely tuned to these channels the entire day. I try to busy myself with other things, when he's home, so he can enjoy what he likes during his time off.
The Science Channel, as of late, has had a lot of programming about Aliens, Aliens this, Aliens that... Sure, I can understand his interest in Science, to a point, but a lot of this stuff makes me wonder what is the point? Do these scientists, professors, authors, and researchers, have any idea if any of this is true? Has it happened, for real, or will it happen, how do they know that for sure?
It amazes me how they find these long ago places of import, figures, writings and drawings, holes in the ground, formations, bones, and so on. Do people go digging for this stuff, or just run across it in their travels? Do big organizations pay them to do what they do? Sometimes, I believe my husband missed his calling. He becomes so engrossed in this stuff, I think he should have been a scientist, researcher, or one of those intellectual, investigative, types.
Then the programs portraying huge tsumanis, volcanoes, hurricanes, killer waves, and storms..? I've been around long enough to know such things do happen, but what is the point in trying to pinpoint when? If its bad enough, and sudden enough, how can anyone really hope to prepare for them? As for these gigantic meteors, or asteroids, possibly hitting the Earth, what are the chances our earthly habitat won't eventually be destroyed?
Actually, I am not a big fan of looking for disaster, I feel it will happen soon enough. Regardless, a person can only do so much to prepare, and hope to secure their well being. I feel the doom sayers may have some of the right ideas, but a person can only afford to do so much, because eventually expiration dates come, and the value of stuff runs out. Where do you draw the line? But, I suppose this researching gives these people a job, an income, and in some ways benefits the human race. So, once again, I occupy my little place in the country, wondering why--?
